hpr2288 :: Installing and using virtualenvwrapper for python

Released on 2017-05-10 under a CC-BY-SA license.

Installing Virtual env wrapper in linux

Best documentation I have found for working with virtualenvwrapper:
http://python-guide-pt-br.readthedocs.io/en/latest/dev/virtualenvs/

Assuming you have pip installed.

  1. Install virtualenv
    sudo -H pip install virtualenv
  1. Install virtualenvwrapper
    sudo -H pip install virtualenvwrapper
  1. Modify your .bashrc file to include that following lines:
    export WORKON_HOME=~/Envs
    source /usr/local/bin/virtualenvwrapper.sh
  1. Test the commands:

    • mkvirtualenv <project_name>
    • rmvirtualenv <project_name>
    • lsvirtualenv (Lists all virtual environments you have created.)

    • workon <project_name>
    • deactivate

  2. Don't use SUDO when installing inside the virtualenv
